South Korea's 16th President Roh Moo-Hyun started his career focused on human rights advocacy for student activists. After taking office, his administration was accused of incompetence, later followed by personal feuds with the media and friction with the U.S. and Japan. After leaving office, Roh became the center of a bribery scandal and committed suicide in 2009 by jumping off a mountain cliff.
