Rod Steiger is an American film actor who trained at the Actors' Studio, emerging as an exponent of the Method, and made his Broadway debut in 1951 in Night Music. He became known following his first major role, in On the Waterfront (1954), and went on to star in a variety of roles. His many other films include Dr Zhivago, In the Heat of the Night (1967, Oscar), American Gothic and Mars Attacks!.
