Hungarian combat photographer Robert Capa redefined wartime journalism by joining soldiers in the trenches and documenting their battle in grim, close-up detail. His first assignment was in the Spanish Civil War. He went on to cover World War II. The 1948 Arab-Israeli War and the First Indochina War. He co-founded Magnum Photos with Henri Cartier-Bresson.
