Canadian Robert Baldwin was born to a prominent lawyer and became one himself in 1825. He was briefly a member of the Parliament of Upper Canada. Baldwin led the first responsible ministry in Canada, the Liberal Party, considered by many as the first truly Canadian government, with his political partner Louis Hippolyte LaFontaine. he resigned in 1851.
