Canadian reporter René Lévesque served as a war correspondent in Korea in the late 50's before being elected to the Quebec national Assembly in 1960. He founded the the left-wing Parti Québécois party whose primary aim was the political independence of Quebec. The plan was rejected in a popular vote in 1980 but Lévesque still maintained his personal popularity.
