Rómulo Gallegos was the first cleanly elected president of Venezuela and is best known as one of the leading novelists in Latin American literature.

Synopsis

Rómulo Gallegos spent most of his life focusing on being one of the leading novelists of Latin American literature. His titles include Doña Bárbara (1929), Canaima (1935) and Pobre negro (1937). In 1936 Gallegos began a political career that eventually made him Venezuela's first cleanly elected president in 1948. He was overthrown by a military coup nine months into his service.
