Jewish comedian Phil Silvers, also known as "The King of Chutzpah," was a popular comedian of the 1950s. Silvers started his career on stage in vaudeville as a boy singer. He made his film debut in 1940 with Hit Parade of 1941 and went on to act in a number of films. He is best known as the fast talking gambler Sergeant Bilko in The Phil Silvers Show, a 1950's sitcom set on a U.S. Army post.
