Born in Indiana in 1915, Paul Samuelson was the first American economist to win the Nobel Prize in Economics. His contributions to economics earned him the nickname "Father of Modern Economics" from historian Randall E. Parker. He is one of the founders of neo-Keynesian economics and has served under two presidential administrations as an adviser and consultant to the United States Treasury.
