In 2005, Kasey joined the cast of the revived sci-fi series Doctor Who. He's played several monsters on the series as well as its spin-off programs, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures.
"I think Doctor Who ... has had a huge impact on British culture, probably more so now than ever. I would say there's not a child, or adult for that matter, who would not want to have a Tardis in their back garden for themselves."
"I was not what you would call a dedicated Doctor Who fan, but as time has gone on, I'm probably as much of a fan of the show as most people are here in Britain and around the world."
Actor Paul Kasey was born on August 5, 1973, in Chatham, Kent, England. Known for playing a wide variety of monsters, most notably on the BBC series Doctor Who, Kasey trained at Laine Theatre Arts in Surrey, England, where for four years he studied dance, musical theater, acting and singing.
After graduating from Laine Theatre Arts, Kasey poured much of his time into auditioning for musicals. He eventually earned his way onto the cast of Grease at the Dominion Theatre in London, a steady gig that ran for two years for Kasey.
In 2000, Paul Kasey was about to embark on tour as a cast member of the three-act musical Fosse when he was given an opportunity to audition for a part in the vampire thriller Blade 2 (2002), starring Wesley Snipes. The role cast Kasey as a reaper, and the chance to play a monster thrilled the young actor.
"I had such a fantastic time filming out in Prague and playing the part, along with wearing the prosthetics, that I thought to myself, 'If there was ever a chance to play more monsters, I would jump at the chance and could not refuse the opportunity,'" Kasey said in a 2009 interview.
Not long after, the actor landed a part as an infected human in the 2002 film 28 Days Later.
But it was the 2005 re-launch of the popular British sci-fi series Doctor Who that propelled Kasey to mainstream fame. Kasey has played an assortment of monsters on the series, including Clockwork Android, The Hoix, the Cyber Leader and the Cybercontroller.
By his own admission, Kasey was not a huge Doctor Who fan when he first began working on the series, but that has since changed.
"I was not what you would call a dedicated Doctor Who fan, but as time has gone on, I'm probably as much of a fan of the show as most people are here in Britain and around the world," the actor has said. "I think Doctor Who ... has had a huge impact on British culture, probably more so now than ever. I would say there's not a child, or adult for that matter, who would not want to have a Tardis in their back garden for themselves."
Not surprisingly, Kasey's Doctor Who work has led to other roles. His monster work has landed him on a pair of spin-off programs, The Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood. On the latter series, he's played the recurring role of Janet the Weevil. And in 2008, Kasey teamed up with Helen Mirren and Brendan Fraser for the film Inkheart.
