Anne and Margot were later taken to Bergen-Belsen. After Auschwitz was liberated in 1945, Otto discovered that he was the only member of his family to have survived the Holocaust.
Months later, Frank's former secretary, Miep Gies, found Anne's diary in the abandoned annex and gave it to Otto. In 1947, he had the journal published under the title The Diary of a Young Girl.
Frank remarried, to Fritzi Markovits, in 1953. The couple moved to Switzerland, where they would live out the remainder of their years together. Frank died in Basel, Switzerland, on August 19, 1980.
In more recent news, in June 2013, the Anne Frank House lost a lawsuit to the Anne Frank Fonds, an organization that Otto Frank founded in the early 1960s, after the Fonds sued the House for the return of documents related to Otto and Anne Frank in 2007.
