Otto, the son of King Louis I of Bavaria, served as the first king of modern Greece, but a revolt in 1862 forced him to step down and return to Bavaria.

Synopsis

Otto, the son of King Louis I of Bavaria, was born on June 1, 1815, in Salzburg, Austria. He was selected to be the first king of modern Greece in 1832 at a conference in London. From 1832 to 1843, he ruled autocratically. The Greeks revolted and Otto was forced to become a constitutional monarch. A final revolt on Oct. 23, 1862, forced him to return to Bavaria.
