Oscar Hammerstein II was born on July 12, 1895, in New York. Although originally interested in law, Hammerstein ultimately turned to theatre and wrote more than 45 musicals. He paired with several composers, but is best known for his partnership with Richard Rodgers. In 1949, Rodgers and Hammerstein formed Williamson Music, Inc.
