Orlando Hernández was born on October 11, 1965, in Villa Clara, Cuba. His father, Arnaldo Hernández, was a pitcher in the Cuban leagues. Orlando followed in his footsteps and in 1992 was on the gold-medal winning Olympic team. In 1997, he fled Cuba and joined the New York Yankees.
