Shortly after leaving the cast, she had her breast implants reduced and then removed entirely. "They were way too big for what I asked for," Eggert remembered. "I wanted a regular B-cup. I'd never had boobs in my life, and I would wake up and be like, 'Oh, my God!'"

Eggert married actor Just Herwick in 2000. The couple, who have since separated, have one daughter, Dilyn.

Since leaving Baywatch,

Eggert has tried to regain the national celebrity she enjoyed while on the show. "I'm not a bimbo," Eggert has said. "I'm totally ambitious. I don't want to run around in a bathing suit, dripping wet, in slow motion." She has appeared on episodes of Married with Children (1996), Boy Meets World (1999), and Gilmore Girls (2001), and she has also played leading roles in a series of films including Thank You, Good Night (2001), What Lies Above (2004), and A Christmas Proposal (2008). In addition to acting, Eggert has also enjoyed successful stints as a reality TV star on The Real Gilligan's Island (2004) and Celebrity Fit Club (2010).

Eggert appeared on Celebrity Fit Club after the death of her father from cancer and a difficult breakup. After tabloids began to critique her weight gain, the actress filmed a video in 2010 that aired on Funny or Die. It was a spoof of her TV lifeguard days in which two men who think she's fat are left in the ocean to drown. "I was like, my being overweight is not my worst quality so how do we laugh at this?" said Eggert. The ending sums up her message: "I'm a real woman and real women gain weight."
