Early Life
Born on June 2, 1926, in Dublin, Ireland, actor Milo O'Shea was educated at the Synge Street Christian Brothers School in Dublin. He took to the stage at a young age and was soon performing with the Abbey Players.
Career Highlights
In the 1960s, Milo O'Shea became known to audiences in the United Kingdom for his starring role on the BBC sitcom Me Mammy. He then made his Broadway debut in 1968's Staircase. The production marked a milestone, as it was the Great White Way's first serious depiction of homosexual men.
A character actor known for his bushy eyebrows and impish smile, Milo O'Shea also enjoyed a long career on the big screen. Notable films include Ulysses (1967), Romeo and Juliet (1968), Barbarella (1968) and The Verdict (1981).
O'Shea's later career included more appearances on the small screen, including on the popular shows Frazier and The West Wing.
Death and Legacy
Milo O'Shea died in New York City on April 2, 2013, at the age of 86. According to a friend of the actor, he died from complications of Alzheimer's disease. O'Shea was survived by his wife, Irish actress Kitty Sullivan; sons Colm and Steven; and three grandchildren.
