Profile

Sir Michael Redgrave was a premier British stage and film actor. Following a short stint as a schoolmaster, he began acting in 1934 at the Liverpool Playhouse. He went on to the Old Vic, Stratford-upon-Avon, and the National Theatre, establishing himself as a leading Shakespearean actor. He starred in several films, including Goodbye Mr. Chips and Nicholas and Alexandra. He was knighted in 1959.
