Max Reinhardt Biography

Director(1873–1943)
Max Reinhardt was one of the first theatrical directors to achieve international recognition. He helped found the annual Salzburg Festival.

Synopsis

Max Reinhardt was born on September 9, 1873 in Baden, Austria. He joined Otto Brahm's theater in Berlin and assumed the stage name Reinhardt. He took over and modernized the Neues Theater in 1903 and his production of The Miracle--using 2,000 actors, musicians and dancers--toured Europe and the U.S. Reinhardt abandoned Germany when the Nazis came to power and moved to the U.S. He died in 1943.
