Maurice Chevalier was born on Sept. 12, 1888 in Paris. He was as a café singer and star of French musical revues. His first Hollywood film, The Innocents of Paris, began a series of musicals that co-starred Jeanette MacDonald. During WWWII Chevalier's popularity suffered because he entertained in German-occupied France. He was awarded a Special Academy Award in 1958 and died in 1972.© 2013 A+E Networks.
