Mary Tudor I was born on February 18, 1516 in Greenwich, near London. The daughter of King Henry VIII, she was declared illegitimate when Henry dissolved his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. Mary Tudor became the first queen to rule England (1553–58) in her own right. She became known as "Bloody Mary" for her persecution of Protestants. She died in 1558.
