Synopsis

At age 11, Liv Tyler found out that rocker Steven Tyler of Aerosmith was her father, and she later appeared in the Aerosmith music video for the song "Crazy." Acting in several film projects afterward, the biggest role of her career so far has been as Arwen in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy. Based on the books by J.R.R. Tolkien, the film series became an international phenomenon.

Early Life

Actor and model Liv Rundgren Tyler was born on July 1, 1977, in New York City, New York. Tyler, often praised for her beauty and natural acting abilities, is perhaps best known for her work in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy. She grew up in Portland, Maine, with her mother, Bebe Buell. Until she was about 11 years old, she believed that rocker Todd Rundgren was her father. It was while at an Aerosmith concert that she discovered that her biological father was the band's lead singer Steven Tyler.

Acting Career

Tyler moved to New York to pursue a modeling career as a teenager. She later began acting and had her first film role in 1994's Silent Fall. While that film received mixed reviews, Tyler received a huge career boost from her appearance in Aerosmith music video for the song "Crazy" around this time. Playing a waitress named Callie, she earned praise for her performance in the 1995 independent film Heavy. Tyler also found box office success with the nostalgic 1960s rock film That Thing You Do (1996) with Tom Hanks and Armageddon (1998) with Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck.

Perhaps the most magical performance of her career so far has been as Arwen, an elf who falls in love with a human, Aragon, played by Viggo Mortensen, in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy: The Fellowship of the Rings (2001), The Two Towers (2002) and The Return of the King (2003). Based on the books by J.R.R. Tolkien, the film series scored at the box office and became an international phenomenon.

In 2007, after a hiatus, Tyler resurfaced with several new projects, including Reign Over Me with Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle. She’s starred in several films over the following years including The Incredible Hulk (2008), The Ledge (2011), Robot & Frank (2012), Space Station 76 (2014), and Jamie Marks Is Dead (2014). She's been cast as Meg Abbott in HBO's dark thriller The Leftovers, which premiered in 2014.

Personal Life

In 2003, Tyler married English musician-singer Royston Langdon. The next year, the couple welcomed a son named Milo. Tyler kept a low profile for a while, spending most of her time with her family. She and Langdon called it quits in 2008.

In 2014, Tyler was romantically linked to British soccer star and David Beckham pal Dave Gardner. In September, it was announced that the actress was expecting her second child. She and Gardner welcomed a son on February 11, 2014. Gardner also has a son, Gray, from his previous marriage.
