Around the same time, she began filming and co-producing a stage adaptation of Bette Davis Speaks, which, according to Gray's website, highlights "the sharp wit of the iconic and legendary movie star" and is based on a book written by Boze Hadleigh.
Off the set, Gray has been involved in various philanthropic causes over the past several years. From 1997 to 2007, she served as an American Goodwill Ambassador,
traveling worldwide to discuss a variety of issues affecting women. She has also worked with AIDS/Life Cycle and Meals on Wheels, among other activist organizations.
In 1962, Gray married photographer and art director Ed Thrasher. They had two children together, Jeff Thrasher and Kehly Sloane, before divorcing in 1983.
Gray was related by marriage to fellow actress Lindsay Wagner.
