La Toya Jackson was born on May 29, 1956 in Gary, Indiana. Her first solo album was titled La Toya Jackson. She released her second album, My Special Love, in 1981. In 1983, she released her third and most successful album, Heart Don't Lie. In 1987, she left her father's management group before releasing her fifth album, 1988's La Toya,

as well as several other albums thereafter.

Early Life

La Toya Yvonne Jackson was born on May 29, 1956 in Gary, Indiana, to Joseph and Katherine Jackson. She is a singer and entertainer, and is best known as a member of the Jackson family. La Toya Jackson is the fifth child born in the Jackson family and was the first female sibling to pursue a solo musical career. Jackson started her career singing background vocals for her siblings' famous group The Jackson 5.

Music Career

In 1979, La Toya left her place with The Jackson 5 to pursue a solo career with help from her manager father, Joseph Jackson. Her first solo album was titled, La Toya Jackson, and the first single off that album, "If You Feel the Funk," garnered critical acclaim and reached the charts throughout Europe.

La Toya Jackson released her second album, My Special Love, in 1981, which had contributions by her siblings Janet, Tito, Jackie and Marlon Jackson. In 1983, La Toya released her third, and most successful, album Heart Don't Lie. The first single off this album, "Heart Don't Lie," was her best selling song, reaching No. 56 on the Billboard R&B charts. She released a fourth album, Imagination, in 1986.

In 1987, she left her father's management group before releasing her fifth album, La Toya, in 1988. In 1989, La Toya Jackson posed on the cover of Playboy magazine, which brought added attention and controversy into her life. In the wake of this controversy, Jackson recorded another album, but it was not released until years later.

La Toya Jackson wrote and released a book in 1991, entitled La Toya: Growing up in the Jackson family. In the book, Jackson famously alleged that her father physically and mentally abused his children, and claimed that he was guilty of incest. Since the release, Jackson has changed her story several times.

La Toya recorded several other albums during her career, ??including a country album??. In 2011, she released the EP Starting Over, including the songs "Just Wanna Dance" and "Free the World."

Personal Life

La Toya Jackson married her former manager, Jack Gordon, in 1989. They divorced in 1997 after almost a decade of alleged physical and mental abuse by Gordon. Jackson also claimed that Gordon forced her to perform and record albums she had no desire to make.

Jackson currently lives in Beverly Hills, California.
