Kyla Ross was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on October 24, 1996, and began taking gymnastics lessons at the age of 3. In 2006, as a level 6 gymnast, she placed first on the floor exercise and third in the all-around event at the state championships. Just two years later, as a level 10 competitor, she received five gold medals at the National Judges Cup. In 2009, Ross helped the U.S. National Team win a gold medal, while taking home four other medals for independent events,

and went on to win several other medals with the U.S. team. In 2011, she competed at the U.S. Covergirl Classic, placing first in both the all-around and uneven bars events, and second on the vault. Competing at the Olympics for the first time in 2012, Ross won a team gold medal with U.S. Olympic women's gymnastics teammates Jordyn Wieber, Gabrielle Douglas, Aly Raisman and McKayla Maroney.
Early Career
American gymnast Kyla Ross was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on October 24, 1996, and began taking gymnastics lessons at the age of 3. Since then, she has received various accolades related to her sport. By 2005, Ross had become a level 6 gymnast, and had competed and won various honors throughout Hawaii. In 2006, she placed first on the floor exercise and third in the all-around event at the state championships, in level 6.
Just two years later, as a level 10 competitor, Ross received five gold medals at the National Judges Cup. She went on to earn a spot on the Junior Olympic National Team and a position on the U.S. National Team. In 2009, she led the U.S. to win a team gold medal, and took home four other medals for her independent events.
In 2010 and 2011, Ross helped the U.S. National Team win other medals, including two team gold medals at the Pacific Rim Championships and the City of Jesolo Trophy, respectively. Later in 2011, she competed at the U.S. Covergirl Classic in Chicago, Illinois, and placed first in both the all-around and uneven bars events, and placed second on the vault.
2012 Olympics
Ross earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic women's gymnastics team in 2012. In late July of 2012, Ross won an Olympic team gold medal, along with teammates Jordyn Wieber, Gabrielle Douglas, Aly Raisman and McKayla Maroney.
