Julio César Chávez Jr., the son of famed Mexican boxer Julio César Chávez, was born in Sinaloa, Mexico on February 16, 1986. Also known as JC Jr., Chávez Jr. began boxing with his father at a young age. Boxing in the middleweight division, Chávez first won the World Boxing Council's middleweight belt in June 2011, defeating Sebastian Zbik. He went on to defend his title three times,

and then lost it to Argentinian boxer Sergio Martinez in September 2012.

Early Life

Julio César Chávez Jr., the son of famed Mexican boxer Julio César Chávez and Chávez's former wife, Amalia Carrasco, was born in Sinaloa, Mexico on February 16, 1986. Chávez Jr., also known as JC Jr., began boxing with his father at a young age. Following a brief amateur career, he turned pro.

Boxing Champion

Chávez boxes in the middleweight division, but has fought in several other divisions throughout his career, including light middleweight, welterweight, light welterweight and lightweight. At 6 feet tall, he is much taller than his famous father, who is about 5'7". Many of Chávez's bouts have been broadcast to pay-per-view audiences.

Chávez first won the World Boxing Council's middleweight belt in June 2011, defeating Sebastian Zbik. He went on to defend his title in three consecutive fights—against Peter Manfredo Jr., Marco Antonio Rubio and Andy Lee—until losing it to Argentinian boxer Sergio Martinez in a 12-round bout in September 2012. Martinez, who first won the WBC middleweight belt in 2010, reclaimed the title following his victory against Chávez—a unanimous decision by the judges.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, when asked how a second fight might be different, Chávez replied, "I will get started earlier."
