In 2005 the actor won a Golden Globe for his starring turn as Elvis Presley in the CBS miniseries Elvis.

Acting Career

Actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers was born Jonathan Michael Francis O'Keeffe on July 27, 1977, in Dublin, Ireland. After being kicked out of school at 15, Rhys Meyers worked on the streets before becoming an actor. In 1996, his portrayal of the assassin in director Neil Jordan's Michael Collins earned the young actor his first substantial notice. He also received praise for his first period drama, 1998's The Governess, as well as his campy portrayal of fictional '70s pop star Brian Slade in Velvet Goldmine.

During the 2000s, Jonathan Rhys Meyers continued to shine in a wide array of film genres. Notable films include 2001's Prozac Nation with Christina Ricci,

2002's indie hit Bend It Like Beckham, 2004's Vanity Fair starring Reese Witherspoon and 2005's Match Point were a few of the highlights in Meyers' acting career. In 2005, he also won a Golden Globe for his starring role as "The King" in the CBS miniseries Elvis.
