Rome also cut ties with Premiere Radio Networks and began broadcasting his longtime radio show, which had expanded to more than 200 affiliates, on the CBS Sports Radio Network in January 2013.

Rome met his wife, Janet, when they worked together at XTRA. They married in 1997 and have two children.
In 2004, Rome was invited to speak at the funeral for Pat Tillman, the NFL player–turned–Army Ranger. The oft-inflammatory TV and radio host offered a touching tribute, noting, "Pat is the man we all want to be."
Rome developed an interest in horse racing and founded the Jungle Racing, LLC stable. In January 2013, Jungle Racing's prized mare, Mizdirection, won the $150,000 Monrovia Stakes at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California.
