Composer Jerome Kern was born on January 27, 1885, in New York, New York. After studying at the New York College of Music, he worked in London theater then became the vice president of a U.S. music publishing company. During the early 20th century, his music was featured every Broadway season. In 1941, the New York Philharmonic performed an adaptation of his musical Show Boat. He died in Manhattan on November 11, 1945.
