Jerome Kagan was born in 1929, in Newark, New Jersey. He did research in developmental psychology at Ohio's Fels Institute circa 1957–1964, before teaching at Yale University. He has conducted research on child development, as documented in such books as Personal Development, Growth of the Child and The Nature of the Child. More recently, he has served as a professor of psychology at Harvard University.

Professional Career
Psychologist Jerome Kagan was born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1929. He studied at Rutgers and Yale, and did research in developmental psychology at Ohio's Fels Institute (1957-'64) before starting his teaching career at Yale. He is currently a professor of psychology at Harvard University.
Kagan has conducted extensive research on child development, documented in such books as Personal Development (1971), Growth of the Child (1978) and The Nature of the Child (1982). He suggested that both sides involved in the nature/nuture controversy were too rigid, and that the parameters of personality formation were still obscure.
