Jean Arthur (b. Oct. 17, 1900 in Plattsburgh, NY) was an American actress, known for her no-nonsense heroine roles and her throaty voice in Hollywood comedies of the 1920s-1940s. She won an Academy Award nomination for her performance in The More the Merrier, and also starred in You Can't Talk It With You and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.
