Profile
Imre Nagy was born on June 7, 1896, in Kaposvár, Hungary. He fought for the Bolsheviks in the Russia Revolution and afterwards returned to Hungary a Communist. In 1953, he became prime minister. No longer on board with the Soviets’ vision, he withdrew Hungary from the Warsaw Pact and led the Hungarian Uprising of 1956 against the Soviets. He was executed on June 16, 1958, in Budapest, Hungary.
