Profile

Sir Herbert Beerbohm was an English theater actor. He made his debut in London in 1876, soon finding success on the stage in the early 1880s. In 1887 he became the manager of the Haymarket Theatre, which he ran and starred in productions in for ten years. In 1897 he built and moved to 'Her Majesty's Theatre,' where he produced a variety of pieces ranging from poetic drama to lighter, children's plays. He was known for his stage productions of Charles Dickens and Shakespeare classics. In 1904 he founded the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He was knighted in 1909.
