Born in Dublin in 1746, Henry Grattan was a statesman in the Irish House of Commons. He led the movement that forced Great Britain to grant Ireland legislative independence in 1782. He later opposed the Act of Union 1800, which merged the Kingdoms of Great Britain and Ireland. He spent the last 15 years of his life in the English House of Commons, flight for Catholic emancipation.
