Henry Fielding was born in 1707 in Glastonbury, England. He is considered the founder of the English novel. Fielding authored the 1742 novel Joseph Andrews and the 1749 novel Tom Jones. Much of his work was extremely critical of the contemporary government. In fact, The Theatrical Licensing Act of 1737 was supposedly a direct response to his writings.
