Henry Fielding was born on April 22, 1707, in Sharpham Park, England, and went on to work as a playwright, crafting satirical works like Tom Thumb and Pasquin. Known for his critique of government and social convention, he later wrote novels that utilized new forms of narrative; notable works included Tom Jones, Miscellanies and Amelia. Fielding, trained in law, was also a magistrate. Fielding died on October 8, 1754, in Libson, Portugal.
