  • Famous Movie Teachers

Some of the most inspirational films in history are those about an educator's lasting impact on his or her students. For instance, in To Sir, with Love, Sidney Poitier stars as a newly hired London school teacher; Mr. Holland's Opus, starring Richard Dreyfuss, tells the story of an impassioned high school music teacher; Michelle Pfeiffer plays a marine turned educator of an inner-city school in Dangerous Minds; in Dead Poets Society, Robin Williams plays a motivational English professor; and Hilary Swank garnered fame for her role as a compassionate educator in Freedom Writers. • BIO Country

Since its emergence in the American South in the early 19th century, country music has evolved into one of the most popular mainstream musical genres. Modern-day country musicians, such as Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Taylor Swift, maintain steadfast fan bases and turn huge profits with their albums.

But country musicians weren’t always pop culture superstars; in the 1920s, U.S. immigrants formed the backbone of what was known as “hillbilly music.”  Their explorations of the rural experience, from the depths of poverty to the height of pastoral life, became the voice of a growing, but often ignored, American subculture. These relatively unknown musicians influenced the later standout stars of country music, including Johnny Cash, Dale Evans and Hank Williams.

And the rise of country music is far from over. Its ever-changing sound—an amalgam of folk, gospel, rockabilly, bluegrass, and even urban rock—continues to pave the way for new musical innovators.

  • The Genovese Crime Family

Of the storied Five Families of New York City's mafia, the Genovese family is one of the most powerful. It's believed the Genovese family provided some of the inspiration for Mario Puzo's The Godfather—both had roots in Corleone, Sicily. "Lucky" Luciano of the Genovese family first organized the Five Families in New York City, and those who came after him maintained the Genovese family status as mafia royalty.
