Throughout his career, Vidal wrote more than 200 essays and 24 novels. Outside of writing, he ventured into politics, worked as a popular talk-show guest and even ran for political office.

Death
Vidal died on July 31, 2012, from complications due to pnemonia, at his home in Hollywood Hills, California. He was 86 years old at the time.
