George Rogers Clark, born in Virginia in 1752, became a western frontier military leader during and after the American Revolution. He successfully defeated British and Native American tribes in multiple frontier battles, as far west as present day Illinois. Following independence, Clark was rewarded with the appointment of Indian Commissioner.
