Born on August 19, 1921, in El Paso, Texas, Gene Roddenberry worked as a pilot and as a police officer before becoming a television writer. He wrote for Dragnet and Dr. Kildare. He created the Star Trek series and produced it until its end in 1969. He produced six Star Trek movies and the second TV series, Star Trek: The Next Generation.
