In 1822 Eugène Delacroix's debuted his first masterpiece, Dante and Virgil in Hell. Between 1827 and 1832, he produced masterpieces in quick succession. In 1830 he painted Liberty Leading the People. From January to July 1832, he toured in Algeria, Spain, and Morocco. After Morocco his drawing and paint handling became freer. He continued to paint Arab subjects almost to the end of his life.
