Profile

Slave Elizabeth Taylor was freed by her mistress as a young woman, but chose to stay with her and study singing. She took the family's name, Greenfield, as her own. In 1851, she performed in major northern cities, raising enough money to tour London. She sang for Queen Victoria at Buckingham Palace in 1854. Greenfield then settled in Philadelphia as a voice teacher, giving occasional concerts.
