Synopsis

Edward VI, born October 12, 1537, was the only legitimate son of Henry VIII (with third wife Jane Seymour). Ten-year-old Edward ascended to the throne in 1547, with regents Edward Seymour, then John Dudley. His death in 1553 caused a power struggle between advocates of Henry's other heirs, Mary (Catholic) and Elizabeth (Protestant), that led to the nine-day reign of Lady Jane Grey.
