With John Phillips, Michelle Phillips and (“Mama”) Cass Elliot, Denny Doherty was a member of the Mamas and the Papas vocal quartet, whose harmonies brought them to the forefront of the folk rock movement of the 1960s with such songs as “California Dreamin'” and “Monday, Monday.” The group disbanded in 1968, re-formed briefly in 1971 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
