Debendranath Tagore was a Hindu philosopher and religious reformer, active in the Brahmo Samaj (‘Society of Brahm’), which purged the Hindu way of life of abuses. Tagore's writings were in his native Bengali. One of his books was translated into English: Vedantic Doctrines Vindicated. His Brahmo-Dharma (‘The Religion of God’), a commentary on the Sanskrit scriptures, is considered a masterpiece.
