Danny Wood was born on May 14, 1969, in Boston, Massachusetts. His best bud from childhood, Donnie Wahlberg, recruited him into New Kids on the Block, a boy band that achieved superstardom in the 1980s. When the group broke up in the 1990s, Wood started his own label, released solo albums and tried acting. This father of four reunited with NKOTB in 2008 and again in 2013.
Postal worker Daniel Wood Sr. and his wife Elizabeth Wood had their fourth child and first son, Daniel William Wood, on May 14, 1969, in Boston, Massachusetts. Their baby boy's childhood consisted of earning good grades, excelling at sports, singing in the church choir and spending time with friend Donnie Wahlberg.
In 1984, Wood was invited by Wahlberg to join New Kids on the Block, a boy band being put together by Maurice Starr, the music producer behind New Edition. (Wood already knew two other members, brothers Jordan and Jonathan Knight, from church choir. Joey McIntyre completed NKOTB.)
Wood was torn between singing and attending Boston University on an academic scholarship. After struggling to do both for a semester, he opted to pursue music full-time. His decision paid off when NKOTB's second album, Hangin' Tough, hit big in 1988 with songs like "You Got It (The Right Stuff)" and "I'll Be Loving You (Forever)." The band went on to sell 80 million records. Wood stood out for choreographing NKOTB's slick dance moves, as well as for his brief romance with Halle Berry.
When the members of NKOTB parted ways in 1994, Wood launched the record label Damage Records and produced several of his own albums, including one under his DJ name, D-Fuse. Wood tried acting too, appearing in such films as 2002's Tequila Express with Christopher Atkins. He also worked as a vice president at Halcyon Jets, a charter-plane company.
When his band reunited in 2008, Wood was raring to join them, especially when they agreed to help him raise funds for Susan G. Komen for the Cure in honor of Wood's mom, who passed away from breast cancer. This divorced dad of four also happily signed up to be part of NKOTB's the Package Tour in 2013 to support the band's new album, 10. The tour also included Boyz II Men and 98 Degrees.
