Daniel O'Connell was born on Aug. 6, 1775, near Cahirciveen, County Kerry, Ireland and became the first of the great 19th-century Irish leaders in the British House of Commons. He worked for Catholic Emancipation and repeal of the Act of Union which combined Ireland and Great Britain. He died in 1847.
