Writer. Born February 28, 1965 in Dublin, Ireland. Colum McCann is an award-winning author of literary fiction. His novels include This Side of Brightness, which he researched by living with the homeless in the subway tunnels of Manhattan. Dancer, a fictional portrait of world-famous dancer Rudolf Nureyev, received the Irish Novel of the Year Award in 2003.

Colum McCann teaches creative writing at Hunter College at the City University of New York. He is also a contributor to The New York Times , The New Yorker and GQ, among other publications. He lives in New York with his wife and children.
