cherry-cheeked girlfriend in George Lucas' 1973 classic American Graffiti.

Williams made her acting debut as a child in The Blob in 1958, but it wasn't until she was cast in 1976 opposite Penny Marshall's Laverne that she became a recognizable star.

Despite rumors of offscreen feuds with executive producer Garry Marshall, Williams exhibited a comedic chemistry with her accident-prone other half that rivaled that of Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance.

Film credits include Gas-s-s in 1971, Travels With My Aunt in 1972, and a key role in Francis Ford Coppola's The Conversation in 1974. Of all her film work, she is perhaps best remembered as Ron Howard's bright-eyed, cherry-cheeked girlfriend in George Lucas' 1973 classic American Graffiti.

After her marriage to comedian-actor Bill Hudson (father of actress Kate Hudson), Williams concentrated on raising a family, limiting her acting to guest appearances and made-for-TV movies, as well as co-producing films.
