Actor Cillian Murphy was born on May 25, 1976, in Douglas, Ireland. A chance part in the small two-person play Disco Pigs became a sleeper hit. He then segued to film, but didn’t receive much notice until the blockbuster film 28 Days Later in 2002. Better films followed, including the award-winning Cold Mountain, 2005’s Batman Begins, and Wes Craven’s 2005 thriller Red Eye.

Acting Career

Actor Cilliam Murphy was born on May 25, 1976 in Douglas, County Cork, Ireland. After several starts and stops in other vocations, a chance part in the small two-person drama Disco Pigs turned out to be Cillian Murphy's ticket to stardom. The play became a sleeper hit, and Murphy toured with the show for 18 months.

Cillian Murphy segued to film, but didn't receive much notice until the blockbuster sci-fi horror film 28 Days Later in 2002. Better films followed, including 2003's The Girl With the Pearl Earring opposite Scarlett Johansson, the award-winning Cold Mountain, 2005's Batman Begins and Wes Craven's 2005 thriller Red Eye. That year, he also starred as transvestite cabaret singer Patrick "Kitten" Braden in Irish director Neil Jordan's Breakfast on Pluto.
