Charley Patton was born circa 1887 in Hinds County, Mississippi. By 1910, he was performing and writing songs and had played with guitarist Willie Brown. In 1914, he started playing guitar with the Chatmon family. He made his first recording in 1926, consisting of 14 songs for Paramount Records, and would go on to make around 70 recordings. Patton died on April 28, 1934 in Indianola, Mississippi.
