Charles Stewart Parnell founded of the Irish Parliamentary Party. After studying at Cambridge, he returned to Ireland and introduced obstructionist legislative tactics to call attention to Ireland's needs. He was jailed for making violent speeches against the new land act and united factions in Ireland around the Phoenix Park murders. He was one of the most important figures in the 19th century.
