Carlo Ponti was born on December 11, 1912, in Magenta, Italy. He graduated with a law degree in 1934, but joined the film industry in the late ‘30s. He produced more than 150 films, including La strada, which won a Academy Award in 1954, and Doctor Zhivago. He married Sophia Loren in 1957 in Mexico. It was declared illegal in Italy due to a previous marriage so he remarried Loren in 1966.
